I am working with a faculty member who wants to collect historical Instagram data. Does anyone have recent success with a method or tool?

On December 11, 2018 Instagram closed its API: https://www.instagram.com/developer/. Currently, Facebook is directing developers to the Instagram Graph API -- https://developers.facebook.com/docs/instagram-api.

This is where the rolling 7-day limit has been imposed on Instagram searches. Instagram data older than 7-days will need to be purchased through a third party. These can be expensive. Some options are:

-Crimson Hexagon https://www.crimsonhexagon.com

-DataSift https://datasift.com/

-Minter https://minter.io

The Social Media Research Toolkit lists availability of social media tools. It hasn’t been updated since January 2018, you may find some resources on it that could be helpful. http://socialmediadata.org/social-media-research-toolkit/
